polycromatic coffee table.

1400x700x300

Produced for the Society of Scottish Artists/Visual Art Scotland Open show 2019

We also received Creative Scotland funding for this project in the way of the Craft Makers Award 2018

The polycromatic finish on the surface is the result of a lengthy research and development process.  We wanted to find a way to paint with concrete in a way that produces a durable and useable surface, employing surface design to elevate furniture to function as art.  Taking abstract expressionism as influence we aimed to show the depth of colour possible with polished concrete, whilst the abstracted pattern intends to draw the viewer in and induce a meditative state.

The prefabricated base is comprised of polished concrete containing 10mm granite aggregate and granite sand.  The utilitarian form references the economy of construction found in our motorway bridges.

We were awarded 2nd prize for design innovation.

These are made to order and we are happy to discuss colour schemes.
